SRS Service Airbag Error
I have a 2003 Volvo V70 base model and I received an error giving me the SRS Service Airbag. I took it to Volvo for a diagnostic and they stated that it was the instrument cluster. They told me that I have to buy a new cluster and I can't get a used cluster because it can't be programmed. The total cost is around $1500.00. The instrument cluster alone is around $1100.00. Is this all true or can I get away with a used cluster? Any advice would be helpful.
Don't trust the Volvo dealer for one minute! I had my V70XC in there last week trying to diagnose an oil leak, and they quoted me $3300 to fix. Took it somewhere else and they pinpointed the leak to the Oil Cap/Seal. That's like a $40 Fix.
Anyway I just got an SRS Airbag Light tonight myself, but I caused it. I have some CD's jammed in the stock radio so I removed it so the Car Audio shop could get a good look at the goofy wires behind it. Somehow removing the Deck tripped the Airbag sensor.
I went back to the shop that diagnosed the leak last week, and though their mechanics weren't in at the moment, they said the code can be reset with a scanner, just not the regular scanner you get at Autozone.

You need the Volvo scanner to reset the code. Try having it reset at an independent Volvo shop first, I had a local one do it for $20.
To the second poster, same thing, have it reset and you'll be fine. The SRS signals travel through the HVAC panel, and you likely unplugged it when you pulled the radio. I did the same thing. You have to remove the neg. battery cable and wait about 10 minutes, THEN remove the radio and HVAC panels. When you unplugged it, it threw a fault since the system was still active. Reset the code and you'll be fine.
