Strange Noise...HELP ?
I recently purchased a used V70 R awd Wagon (with extended Volvo certified 100K warranty.
After a couple of weeks I was driving out in the county and heard a strange "metallic like rubbing on a shroud" type noise.
Upon hearing the noise (at 75 mph), I put car into neutral and revved motor which did not speed up noise. I put car back in gear and slowed to a stop. While rolling to a stop, the speed of the noise slowed down and stopped with my stop. Everytime I hear the noise I have tried to get the noise to respond; If I floor it after hearing the noise, the noise will go away as the car downshifts (automatic trans), and then return when the
trans reconnects to the previous speed/gear it wants at a given speed.
It is a metallic almost shrieking noise that can be heard better when windows are down. The noise will usually just go away after a minute or two, regardless of what I am doing ???
I am not a stranger to fast cars, turbo cars or high perf Euro cars;
I have owned S70 T-5, S80 T-6, Jeep SRT-8, Porsche Cayenne S, and (4) Porsche 911 turbos.
I recently (last week) sold my 0-300 km in 26 seconds, Protomotive 996 Twin turbo.

It is very random, but the next time it happens I will drive it to my friends lift.
Any other ideas ? Is there a metal shroud near the torque converter that spins only
when car is moving. Car has to be moving for the noise.
