1998 V70 T5 Turbo 127,700 miles.
Syrup smell when climate control is 75 degrees or hotter. smells like coolant. I know it's bad for my health to ride around inhaling the fumes, but it's cold this time of year and I need the heater. can somebody help me track down this leak so I can fix it? It's definitely not the heater core because no water is on my floor. So where do I look next?
any advice is appreciated. thanks

I'd double check the heater core itself, or the o-rings.
Mine smelled, and fogged the windows, for close to a year before it began to leak bad enough to be noticeable on the floormats (and motivate me to finally fix it). It was such a small leak that it'd evaporate into the HVAC ducts, stink the car up, fog the windows, and ultimately leave a mess of dried antifreeze in the airbox.
If your windows are fogging, or the smell really is coolant, there's really no other place for the contamination to take place. The heater core, pipes, firewall mount and o-rings are the only place that the airflow could possibly meet with a coolant component.

djerkid, my windows don't fogup at all. it's just a hint smell of coolant and it's anoying. but for the sake of fixing the problem, how do I get to the heater core and what type of cost am I looking at to fix it DIY vs. dealership?
and I do believe it's a coolant leak somewhere because my
"low coolant level" light came on two days ago and I had to top off the coolant reservoir.

I'm preparing to buy the part and install it myself. my guess is I will have to let the car sit a couple days and put wifey in a loaner. but here's my problem. I can't see any of the pics or links you guys posted so I can get a visual step by step.
how can I be able to see your pics and links on this site?? do I need to sign up with something or what?
