RE: transmission fluid flushing
I called two Volvo dealers and got two different responses on this subject. Volvo of Barrington told me not to change it because it will ruin the transaxle. They don't even offer the service. Fields Volvo told me to bring it in and they charge 140 for the service. It's enough to make your head explode. You read all the conflicting info on the net and get frustrated. You would think the dealer would be consistant. Nah.

RE: transmission fluid flushing
I also have a BMW325i manual, same argument exists on transmission fluid change...
personally, I think the statement of changing fluid could harm the transmission has no leg to stand.
I did get "black paste" off the transmission plug, which are the metal debris from the transmission, how could replace the fluid, the same volvo used, possibly harm the transmission? if that is the case, why didnt volvo put the "used" fluid in the first place?
I did feel smoothier ridering for both my BMW 325i and V70 (my wife's car), she actually said the same thing for V70, since she is not mechnically minded, so I dont think she would make it up...
I also read off the web, that if one has not changed the fluid for a looong time, then it is true, that with newer fluid, it could make the damaged tranny "surface" sooner, but it is not that the new fluid did the harm, the damage was there already. But if one change the fluid regularly (30k ~50k), the damage should not be there!
Again, it is really depends on individual's judgement..
