Cool v70 01 rear electrical problem

The trunk door seems to have a loss of electrical power except for the wipers and de-fogger. No License plate lights and no interior lights. Also a constant fault message telling me the trunk is open even tho it is not. The locking device for trunk works fine. I have looked for a burnt fuse but can't find any bad ones.

The Dealers want me to replace the whole lock device, that might get rid of error code but I suspect there is more to it.

Has anyone had this problem or know what I should look for?

Most likely latch is bad.

There is micro switches inside that go bad. But you cannot just by the switch you need to replace the entire assembly.

I also had a very similar problem. It turned out to be broken wires near the left hinge of the tailgate wiring harness, most likely from flexing back and forth with the tailgate. One of the wires broken was the tailgate lock wire and it's grounded through a switch in the lock when the tailgate is shut. The switch was fine, it was the broken wire that created an open circuit and the tailgate open message. It can be an intermittent type problem too. The open tailgate wire would also cause my alarm to go off randomly.

The rear wiper, license plate lights or the tailgate lock can also be affected by the broken wires, I had 5 or six broken wires. Not sure about the interior light you mentioned though.

I don''t have a picture of the wires in my car but this picture looks a lot like was I saw.

To check the wires near the left hinge area you have to pull apart the black plastic covering (hinge area) and pull the wire harness cover down far enough to look at the wires.

Wow, man I'm I happy we have a site like this!! This time Firstv70volvo was SPOTon! Out of the 11 wires running through the "protective sleeve" 7 of the wires were broken and 2 were almost gone. Thanks for the AWESOME advice!!! All the Mechanics told me it was probably the lock assembly that needed changing, and it seemed like it would be but I always had a nagging feeling there was more to it.

Thanks again, you saved me a ton of money!

Glad you found it now I know it is more common as well and I will suggest that from the start now.

Everything works now, the interior lights, the lic plate lights, the defogger which my wife told me was broken and the warning message is finally gone! Cost me $ 0.50 to fix and that sure feels good. hehe

Thanks for all the advice. I have saved plenty of money by checking this forum first before going to dealers/mechanics. Keep up the good work!
