Default V70 Audio upgrade: HU-613 to HU-803?

Is this possible? I have a 2001 V70 with an HU-613 head unit. I would like to drop in an HU-803 to get the 4 disc changer feature (no need for the cassette.) Are there any wiring changes or are the plugs interchangable? My V70 has a center channel hole in the dash, not sure if there is a speaker in there or not. If not, is there a wire already there for an install? Second question, if I go this route, is there a good way to install a connection for an IPod?
Thanks in advance to those in the know!

It is possible? Yes

Is it feasable? No

To upgrade you would need the factory amp (pa-200 or pa-300) along with the wiring harness for it. You could check ebay...

You would also have to have the dealer program it for you. So, costs to procure the right equipment, plus having to go to the dealer make this a deal breaker for most.

May I ask, why do you want to upgrade?

I was looking for the cd changer option without having to put in an external changer. I am also interested in an auxiliary input for an IPod. Any suggestions that may be simpler?

From what you've said, it seems like a bit hassle to swap. Thanks for the info.

Check www.usaspec.com for iPod integration. They seem to have the most "Volvo Friendly" units. Last I checked they run around $100, but they also do it the right way, and give you an Aux input at the same time. You can add a changer for the HU-613 I believe, but it is the trunk-mount volvo factory changer. I don't know if you need to see a dealer to get that one working or not, but I do know you need the wiring harness for it.

I've checked the USA Spec site. It seems like a simple option that will save some work. Thanks for the feedback.

No problem. I've had both stereo systems in my Volvo ownerships, and it's not worth the upgrade for a few reasons. It's nice to have the changer, but it's slow. It's just as fast, if not faster to change a single disc. Also, the sound difference is noticeable but not drastic. There is a little cleaner/deeper bass, and the surround sound is nice, but is not worth the hassle of sourcing a new head unit, wiring harness, factory amp, and center speaker. Not to mention the pain of installation, and having to go to the dealer to get it all working.
