I need a driver's side headlight wiper arm for my 2000 V70. What other models have the same part? Thanks, I'm newish to this Volvo thing...

 

Should be 98-00 S/V 70's.

 

When I searched this topic, I noticed someone in the 850 section had asked how to do it but there were no pics. Being a visual kind of guy, I like to look at pics along with written explanations so ... I hope this helps.

Here is the left (driver's side) headlight wiper/washer on my '00 V70 XC. The P.O. snapped off part of the bracket that holds the wiper when they tried to replace it and were apparently stumped on how to fix it. Enter Dig.

Note that I have already wiggled the fluid hose and removed it from the nipple which is just below the headlight to the far right in the pic. For photo reference purposes, I placed it back into position without actually fitting it back over the nipple.





The cap that covers the nut on the wiper stem flips up for easy access.





It's probably metric but I used a 5/16th socket and ratchet with no problem when I removed the nut.





The arm is mounted on a shaft with a tapered spline so you'll need a pair of pliers to grip and wiggle it to pull it off.





Voila! Ready to reverse the procedure to install the replacement. It's off to the "Pick 'n' Pull to see if I can find one.

OMG! Nobody (Advance/Salvo/Pep Boys etc) carries the wiper blades in stock? I had to go to a Foreign Car Auto Parts store and order them. $15 and I can pick them up in the morning.

Meanwhile, I have a better understanding of why I needed to replace the wiper arm to begin with. I quickly located a donor car at the Pick 'n' Pay but when I moved the arm into position, it simply crumbled into little bits of brittle plastic.

The next one was much better but as I was removing the wiper fluid hose from the nipple, the entire nipple snapped off!

Luckily, there were a number of Volvos of appropriate vintage and all of the arms are the same. I found one more (the last one of the day, no less!)and after removing the hardware and ensuring that I could safely remove the arm from the car without destroying it, I used my razor knife to slit the fluid hose so as to not damage the nipple. Third time's the charm, I guess. I got it home and it popped right on.

I also found a leather arm rest lid (gray instead of taupe but oh well) to replace the original lid which had a huge chunk of leather missing from the middle of it. I cleaned it up and installed it and the bonus is that I can use some of the cupholder parts to get at least one working cupholder. Pure win!
