Default V70 long start

Hi everyone,

i'm a SAAB guy but i'm alittle lost here. My girlfriend just bought a 2000 v70 wagon from her parents. The car is in great shape except for some slight dings and such.

I noticed that it usually takes quite awhile (10seconds or more) of cranking before the engine fires. I called her mom and asked and she said the car has done it since new, and the dealer tech never figured it out. Any ideas?

Also the check engine light likes to come on/off by itself. I noticed that usually while driving down a steep hill the check engine light will come on and then turn off later. I have yet to pull the code, but plan to this week.

TIA for all the help guys.

-Craig

Probably a leak in the fuel system if it has done it for an extended period of time. If it were the pump it would have likely failed by now. The fuel system pressurizes when you turn the car off so it's readyt o go next time you fire it up. If you have a small leak in the system this pressure releases, and it takes a few seconds for it to build up again. Go to O'Reilly's and buy a cheap fuel pressure gauge. Connect it and start the car. then shut it off and check the reading on the gauge. leave it for a few hours and come back, if the pressure has dropped you've got a fuel system leak. If it holds pressure, you could have pump or filter problems.

I don't know if you're in the states, but if you ever sell that Sonett, I know of a buyer. Gorgeous Viggen!

yup i'm located in CT, so the viggen and sonett sleep for the winter to avoid the salt. the SPG however has some nice holes in the floors i am currently addressing.

thanks for the complements. i'll try to remember to pull that code this week. i'm kinda **** about my cars so i'm going to try to get these issues on her wagon sorted out this summer, buffed up and all the dings pulled. I was also looking at tuning...does anyone have recommendations? I know for the saabs you can go to a stage 2 tune before major hardware is required how about volvo's? any tuner recommendations?

IPD does a nice safe tune. So does BSR, which I'm sure you are familiar with. You can get a stage 1 tune, and a ppc DIY programmer from BSR for just under $800. Stage 2 requires exhaust and intake, and a downpipe never hurts, which is required to go stage 3, but IMO is not worth it. For example, a stage 2 Volvo tune from BSR will net me about 290bhp where if I were to spend the extra $900 and go stage 3, I would only be at 300bhp. Not worth the money for 10bhp. Better to stick with stage 1 on something you'll drive every day, and not be tracking it. Of course, mine is a 2002 T5, and the V70 you have will likely net less. Did you know you can download and flash the SAAB on your own? I think even your Viggen, but I would have to check with my SAAB buddy.

yup i have a spare ecu and the bdm now, just installed my boost/wideband/and egt gauge and will start tuning at some point. (too many other projects) I have always been wary of BSR since their tunes tend to run lean and their customer support is less than steller when resolving issues. (so i hear) I'll look into ipd, that probably won't happen till i make sure all the standard maintenance and any issues are up to snuff.
