V70 Purchase help
Ill keep it simple..
Please advise on the following for me.. I am newer to Volvo but am aware that when purchasing I could have great assistance from those who have already experienced it....
I am looking for 1998-2003 roughly in years
Is there a specific year I should avoid or look at.
Is there a specific type or V70 (r) (slt) (t) (awd) I should look at or avoid
I live in northern Ontario Canada and get lots of winter 6-8 months and lots of snow so AWD is an advantage, but if you guys say the FWD is also great in snow and I save heaps of fuel and shave thousands off the purchase price... that is also very kool.
Its for me my wife and 2 kids, age 2 and 5. I want to keep the safe and have cargo space and drive with a little style.
Thanks for your input or thoughts.
I figured I would start here before chasing Volvo V70's down in parking lots and cornering people with questions at their cars.
Cheers
Chris
98 is known to be a very good year for Volvo. The 99-01 are known as not so good years. But the most important part is whehter the car was properly maintained or not. I would rather have a perfectly maintained 00 over a neglected 98.
My son has a 98 V70 R which does have the AWD and it's a great car that he has had no problems with whatsoever. I have a 98 V70 GLT which has the Low Pressure Turbo and FWD and also have had no problems at all. I normally would say stay away from the AWD, but where you live it might be worthwhile. My Mother In Law has an 01 V70 Non Turbo FWD and she hasn't had any problems either, but she does not drive it all that much.

I also live in Canada, Montreal...so I also get a lot of snow, I am in the same situation as you, young family...I have a basic 04 V70 2.4, It's a FWD and let me tell you it's just great in snow. I think the key is in the tires, the car is quite heavy so it tracks really well in snow and on ice. I have Vredestein SnowTrac as winter tires wich I recommand. Unless you want to go off road or climb a mountain, AWD is not necessary, you will also save a bit on gas and expensive repairs. That's my opinion....
