V70 trans engaged no go,only rattle noise

V70 FWD 1998,starts,put in D or R,rattle noise only no car movement.If it is PNP switch would have rattle sound?199,00 miles of prior bliss and no"flashing arrows"Thanks

could be the axel shaft broken or the cv joint is not in the trans all the way if your LUCKY
