As the title asks, can I swap the transmission in a '98 XC70 without removing the engine? I'm capable mechanically either way, just looking for any BTDT.

it can be done but it's difficult on any FWD car. on a RWD car it's much easier. you'll probably have to unbolt a couple of the motor mounts and tilt the engine a little in order to get the tranny out. keep a floor jack under heavy parts and be careful and u can probably do it.

 

Yes it can be done but the motor needs to be supported from the top.
