Default V70 Transmission lock servo switches

Hello. I have a 1998 V70 XC AWD turbo 2.4. We have recently been having problems getting the car out of 'Park' and have been using the 'Shiftlock Override' to do so. I removed the centre console, and the gear selector micro switch, which I checked and tested. The switch worked, so I replaced it. Now, the servo works about half the time, but the rest of the time we still have to use the Shiftlock Override to get the car out of Park. I don't know how to tell if our problem is with the gear selector micro switch or the brake-pedal activated (PNP??) switch that sends the signal to the gear selector micro switch. When the micro switch doesn't work, if I pump the brakes a few times the pedal may then activate the micro switch, but not necessarily. Sometimes, when it does start working again, it will work the next 20 times I press the pedal. Can someone tell me if it is the micro switch or the brake pedal switch that is malfunctioning? I don't want to replace both if I don't need to

Also, how do I access the brake-activated (PNP) switch? Is it easy to remove it?

Thanks for any information.

Intermittent electrical problems are very difficult to diagnose. If you can get along by using the shift override, wait until the problem is no longer intermittent. Then diagnose it. That's what I'd do.
