What is the difference between 140/170hp?
The two engines have the same tecnical specifications.
I want to buy at new Volvo V70. Have to pay appr. £4000 for getting 30 hp more. But what is actually changed in the engine? Is it just a matter of "installing at chip"? How can this chip give the engine a better performance?

Hi,
I have just asked a dealer the same question and his reply was as follows:
"Some of the components are the same on 140 and 170 bhp but a lot of the engine running gear is different."
I have asked him for a few more details, When I find out I will let you know.
Best regards
Dan

Hello again,
I have used American technical drawings which were stamped "If in doubt ask" or "If all else fails, read the instructions". Well, when reading the handbook it comments on the fact that the 140bhp engine is a 10 valve and the 170bhp is a 20 valve engine! so that works out at 400 dollars a tappet sort of!
Now I wonder if there are any heads on offer on Ebay?
All the best
