Default Where is the fuel filter - 2003 v70

I thought changing the fuel filter would not be a big deal in my 2003 V70 (inline 5 - Non Turbo). The car has 94,000 miles and this would be a good start before I took on the challange of the timing belt. So I purchased the filter and got to work. I can't even find the fuel filter!!!!!! I am sure someone can tell me where it is and what I need to install the new one.

Thanks Don

Right side, just in front of the rear tire. 5 min job.
Just depress the clips on the connectors and pull the hose ends off the filter. Then just push hose ends onto the new filter.

Yup... and def do it yourself or get a friend to do it. I went to Big O Tire and they wanted $80... I said "Are you crazy it is a 5 minute job tops". They must be smoking crack in the back room to think I would pay that for that easy job.

Hello, Not really, rsxer63. They have a history of people paying whatever they say.
What puzzles me is why these people don't regard a customer like you as a potential "lifelong" customer. They'd say I was marketing with their money, that I should mind my own business and that they've learned their territory. Sure. I'd remind them that they lost a customer because they can't think on their feet. I don't mean to go on about this but after ascertaining the fact that you aren't a dope, they could have engaged you by offering a "21 point safety inspection" and invited you along. They could've asked you to come back at a less hectic time-giving them time to order the correct filter and, God forbid, learn a Volvo word or two. There is such a shortage of finesse' in this world. Or maybe I'm childish. Kira

Default Yep...the fuel filter is easy...if it has one.

I've seen the photos and video on Bay 13 about changing the filter and it indeed looks easy. But one bit of caution before you buy a filter for this model. It may NOT have one!

There may be one in the tank, but it is not user serviceable. I'm not sure of the rational behind this, but I can confirm it is totally true. Your best bet is to call the dealer with the VIN, or Tasca's parts department because they originally pointed it out to me. I was in disbelief so I called Volvo in NJ. They confirmed that my model car did not have a fuel filter.

I close friend in automotive confirmed the industry is moving in this direction. They claim that fuel delivered nowadays is much cleaner than it used to be and fuel filters are going to be a thing of the past. I would rather have a filter.....

Default In-tank filters

Hello, My sister's 1999 Jeep Cherokee has no replaceable fuel filter. Most of what you see whenever someone opens an old filter is bits of "rust and sand". My guess is that the new designs constantly rinse off when the fuel level is high enough. I also guess that the transition to plastic tanks and fuel lines has reduced the amount of scale etc. in our fuel systems. The alcohol (dry gas) in fuel injection cleaners will be all we need to clear the inevitable water from our tanks. Kira

I concur. My V70 has a steel gas tank. I purchased a replacement filter from FCP and finally found a DIY video outlining just how simple it is (using a 12mm and needle-nose pliers). I spent 2 hours under my car trying to find the existing filter. I gave up and called a parts department to a local Volvo dealership that I have used before. Using my VIN they found that there is no exterior fuel filter for my car. I had spoken with the folks at FCP and explained my situation requesting they reimburse my mail expenses on the return of this filter. I'll confirm that with an email message.

Steel tanks don't have a filter.
