1998 V70 T5 Turbo.
2 days ago my wife hears a winding noise in the steering wheel. I check it out and the fluid is full and nothing is rubbing under the car, but I can hear a definite "winding" sound directly coming from the steering wheel inside the car. it's louder when I'm in the car than when I'm outside the car with her turning the wheel.
any idea what that is? any info is appreciated. thanks

This may, or may not help. I get a significant "groaning" noise inside my 99 V70, turning the wheel. Especially when it's cold. I'm fairly certain that it's the small, white bushing at the base of the column, where it meets the floor-board. I think it needs fresh grease, which you apply by pushing down the boot to remove the white bushing. It looks like a collar, and I think it pulls off easily. Good luck!
