Electric winding noise

I've got an '06 S60, and when I started it up this morning there was an electric winding noise coming from under the hood. It appears to be coming from behind the driver's side headlight assembly. It went away the most recent time I started the car. THoughts?

normal, it's the vacuum assist pump for the brake booster
