2021 R-Design Changes
My local dealership has two 2021 R-Designs on the lot and I noticed they no longer have the "R" on the steering wheel, the R-Design embossed in the side rear pillars, or a badge on the rear of the car. Is this a documented change from Volvo for 2021? I can't find anything about it. Seems odd to remove anything and everything indicating the car is an R-Design.
I just traded in my 2017 XC60 T6 with Polestar on a 2021 XC40 T5 R design. It has no R design insignia anywhere. In fact all the 2021 XC40 R design vehicles I looked at were absent of the markings. The only way you can tell now is by the black front grille, the three spoke steering wheel and of course the manufacturers label.
Thanks for posting this observation. New member, and searched because I had this exact question. I was planning to purchase a 2020 CPO T6 S60R, and drove a few, and it had badging on the trunk, steering wheel, headrest. I ended up wanting the bursting blue T6 and could only find one 2021 new, so I got it. To my surprise, I didn't realize the R badging was removed. I found it very odd also, especially when those are pretty cheap type options. Since the grille is still diffferent (at least in paint color), I would think the only cost savings would be standardizing the headrest without the badging. Very odd indeed, Trevor!
