Trying to update maps via USB

Hello.

I own a 2021 XC40 T5 and I'm attempting to update my nav maps via a USB thumb drive, but the vehicle is not reading the USB while it's running.

I followed the instructions below from their website:

Download the Latest Maps (custhelp.com)The map must be downloaded to an empty 64 GB USB memory stick formatted with exFAT or NTFS (if downloading the full North American map) or 32 GB memory stick (if downloading the Regional Maps) formatted with FAT32.

Base Map:

Download the North America map upgrades here for Windows

Download the North America map upgrades here for MAC

After you select the appropriate link for your operating system, please select "Run" from the pop-up menu, select "New Download" and select USB.

Anyone out there having issues with their vehicle not reading the USB? I've formatted in exFAT and NTFS - nothing works.

Appreciate the help!

May I know if you were able to find the solution...Did USB stick with FAT32 format worked?

i have similar issue on my 2016 XC90 plugin hybrid

It did not work for me as my USB was 128gb (too big to format to FAT32). The workaround was using my iPhone hotspot/bluetooth to download the maps while the vehicle was in use. Every time I used the vehicle, I turned on my hotspot and the download/installation would resume. Just keep in mind this will take an hour or so.

Well, I tried that option but it is saying that upgrade is more then 1gB and can't be downloaded directly...

  • I just updated mine this past Friday. I formatted the 64 GB USB drive pen drive NTFS and then uploaded it to my 2021 XC40 . Did you make sure that you went through the complete download and the verification of the pen drive after the download? (As ignorant as this may sound) Are you making sure that you inserted the pen drive in the USB port with the white outline around it? If you’ve done that I hope someone else has an idea on why it won’t load.

I went through the complete d/l & verification after the download and inserted into the USB (white outline). I wonder if it's possible my USB is too large (128gb)? I may be worth a shot to use a 64gb USB to test.
