Default 2010 XC60 D5 (156) thermostat

Having trouble with my engine temperature running to low. My ob2 app is saying on days with ambient around 15deg C my engine is only around 50 Deg C. Obviously its stuck open because the other night driving home it done a re-gen and tempruture went upto almost 100 C and went down again after it had Finnished. I confirmed this though the app and the soot level had gone down to O. 17grams.
To confirm.... Is this thermostat at the rear of the engine below the top turbo? Also is it a bastard of a thing to change?

for the D engines you may have better luck on the UK forum - but I did find this thread:

hopefully the pics will look familiar to your year/model. The Ds never came to the US so not a lot of experience over here.

Thanks very much for that. I didn't know you didn't have the diesel engines in the US. I wish it was the same engine as in the link you found. This is the older 138kw engine which is easy to replace the thermostat. My engine is the newer 151kw engine and is totally different. I really don't know why any motor company would put a serviceable item at the rear of the engine. Its going to be a nightmare to access this to replace it. Just for fun try and find it in this pic. It's on the left hand side of picture in behind everything. Very hard to spot but you can see a small metal pipe on the far left corner. It's attached to that in a dark black hole behind everything. (Grin). Have put a post on the European website now. Thanks very much for help
