2012 D5 Rolls backwards when stopped at lights
Hi,
I’ve had this Volvo for a 18 months and this has just started to happen. If you come to a stop on an incline when you start off again, sometimes, but only sometimes it will roll back as your foot moves from the brake to the accelerator. When you start to accelerate it jerks forward as you would imagine if the car was rolling back slowly then you set off. I can’t seem to replicate the problem it only happens every now and then, but never happened before. I have read that at a stop the Volvo will shift into neutral and when it detects your foot come off the brake will shift quickly into Drive. It’s like the car is intermittently developing a lag in this process. As soon as you accelerate it goes into drive as sets off but it lurches forward since it was rolling backwards. I have heard some people get around this by selecting neutral manually at a stop then manually putting it into Drive when it’s time to go but I’d rather a fix than a work around. I’m guessing this could be the beginnings of a failure in the process that selects neutral at a stop or maybe the transmission is in need of some attention.
I have not been able to make it happen it only happens now and then, I’d say 1 in about 50 stops roughly but maybe it will get worse
