Default 2012 XC60 100km New Transmission???

Hi, my aunt bought her 2012 xC60 brand new from the dealership. She uses it so gently and maintains it better than the average person. She had to have it towed the other day bc it wouldn’t start and they are telling her a new transmission is needed. This will cost around $9,400 CAD.

Is this common? I’m in disbelief right now as I bought my Subaru at the same time and have driven it far more than her and a lot less gently and have not had any issues like this.

Shes at the point where she needs to decide if it’s even worth it to keep. Does anyone have any foresight if this will be a recurring cost for the next few years with other things breaking down?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't go so far as to state that the transmission is a weak spot on the XC60, but it is important that the transmission is serviced properly or risk premature failure. If the previous owner didn't keep the service up, that may explain why the transmission failed.

Did they explain how a transmission would cause the car to not start?

I purchased a brand new XC60 in 2012. In the first few years my engine and transmission needed to be replaced. I have had problem after problem with this car and it has become a money pit. I am so sorry I ever purchased a Volvo. I thought this car would last me longer than 8 years but I’m ready to say goodbye to Volvo. Unfortunately for me I take great care with my vehicles and it looks almost showroom.
