2014 steering wheel shakes randomly at 70 MPH
2014 XC60 steering wheel shake
My wife's Volvo shakes randomly at 70 MPH. the steering wheel shutters back and forth and it is very noticeable. My wife says its the equivalent of a shake weight without the payoff lol
We just put new tires (all 4 new) on the car this week, new brakes and a new alignment. This was all at the suggestion of the repair shop to fix the issue. Do yall have any ideas what it could be? the car only has 84K mile son it and it has been a nightmare to own. The closest dealership to us is in Houston 90 miles away (we live in college station)

If someone has put tire sealant in a tire to stop a leak that goo can randomly make a tire out of balance - you stated "new tire", was that supposed to be "new tires"?
Steering wheel shaking is caused by out of balance tires. - Sure a worn component can make it worse, but the root cause is tire balance. I would have hoped a worn component would have been discovered during an alignment.

Steering wheel shaking is caused by out of balance tires. - And having owned a wheel balance machine and watched employees use it - You need to have the wheel balance checked because you usually don't have your Master Techs balancing tires.
It's also possible you have a bent wheel if they are balanced correctly.

curious what you mean by random - does it change when you apply power, let off the gas or brake? Does it seem to match to road surface? are you driving on regular paved roads or mix in off road etc? I agree with Hoonk that you may have a bent wheel or poorly balanced rim. Did your tire shop also inspect suspension/axle boots etc?
I need to modify my answer - I have seen aftermarket outer cv joints overheat and begin to seize making the steering wheel shake badly - scary badly. But the OP did not mention a replacement axle.

mall breaking and accelerating are fine. It’s just hey way speeds. The car has 84k on it.
My first thought as well was that the tires were not balanced correctly.
It's a cheap and easy fix as the original tire shop should check it for free. If you do not trust them, find another tire shop. Techs who do not correctly balance a wheel is very common.
