Default 2015 xc60 T5 oil change

First time posting here. My wife and I have a 2015 XC60 T5 AWD with almost 6500 miles on it. I brought it in for its first oil change since it's a new engine and I feel like 10k miles or a year is too much. The dealership was practically trying to talk me out of doing it saying it's a waste. What are everyone else's thoughts on oil change intervals for these hard working turbocharged engines?

It all depends on your long term plans and goals for the car. Do you typically drive a car for <150K miles or 10 years? If so following the manufacturers recommendations are just fine. If you are like me and will shoot for 300K miles then IMO you should be using a quality synthetic and going no longer than 7500 between changes, but if you ask 50 people their opinion you will get 50 different answers.

That car must use synthetic. All 2013s and later require synthetic. That is also when Volvo switched to 10k intervals.

You can do the free services early. Once they are used up, you're on your own. Or you can pay for oil changes between free services. But the free ones cannot exceed the mileage of the service by much. So if you pay for an oil change now, go back for the free 10k at 10k.
