2016 XC60 3.0 T6 AWD Turbo Exhaust Leak
Good morning, first post. Been a Volvo owner for years, and traded in our 2011 XC70 Wagon for this 2016 XC60 3.0 T6 AWD two years ago. The Volvo is serviced regularly by Eddy's Volvo in Wichita Kansas. I have an exhaust leak in the turbocharger area and can't find where the leak is coming from. I have had it on a lift and over a pit with others checking for exhaust leaks without success, to the point I am beginning to think I have lost it. Has anyone identified this symptom? Thank you for the read and the opportunity to fix this myself. The reason for the post is Eddy's Volvo is two hours away from Manhattan, Kansas, a "hey this is what we found" would be wonderful. Thank you.
My experience is there's three more common causes for exhaust leaks 1) leaking flex pipe. Over time the metal in the flex pipe mesh fatigues and creates the leak. Usually you need the engine running with the car on the lift to hear/feel the little puffs come out 2) broken EGR tube. Not sure if this is still a thing on a 2016 (sorry showing my age) but the EGR tube attaches to the downpipe to suck exhaust gases back into the intake for emissions. That tube can crack/break off creating a leak 3) broken header stud or cracked manifold. Not sure how common this is but you should inspect as well. I suppose its possible there could also be a gasket or turbocharger issue (say a cracked housing/blown seal etc)
Note that the flex pipe is part of the front cat so while its easy to replace, the OEM part is going to be expensive. You can buy replacement aftermarket flex pipes but that will require cutting/welding etc to fit into the front pipe.

mt6127 is referring to this flex pipe and is letting you know it comes as part of this whole pipe which includes the catalytic converter (big $$$) (This image is not an OE part but gets the message across)
Thank you for the response and the recommendation, I will look at the amount of room I have to attempt to replace the part. I have tried many times to get up there and catch some sort of leak or puff without success and I can't tell you how many times folks have looked at me with a (think this guy has sniffed to much exhaust) look. Thanks again for the help all of you.
Good morning, I was poking around the internet using your photo (Dingus1) and found the various prices and how to ensure the part will fit my XC 60.
This morning on ramps I took photos and realized my exhaust is different than what I am seeing on the internet. My catalytic converter is on the top of the system and the flex pipe is below the catalytic converter.
The leak seems to be coming from the top of the catalytic converter, of course where you cannot see it.
An additional question would the turbo bypass valve have anything to do with this fault?
I have no check lights or errors on the XC60.
Thank you,
