Angry 2018 XC60 Limp Mode then Dead Stop

Our 2018 XC 60 with 50 687 km on the dial has on 3 occasions (once on 6 December 2023, and twice on 1 March 2024) gone into limp mode with no warning. Limp mode is supposed to allow one to continue travelling at a slow speed, but in our case the vehicle gave a few splutters then came to a sudden stop and would not move.
After switching off and waiting 5 minutes the vehicle started ok and the Limp mode warning disappeared, and the vehicle drove OK until the next time. The first episode was checked out by our Volvo dealership who said there were no fault codes and that it must have been dirty fuel.
After the incidents of 1st March I took the vehicle to an independent Volvo specialist garage. They ran many codes, with some showing several faults, including:
ECM-P263600 Fuel Pump "B" Low Flow, and
ECM-P008B00 Low Pressure Fuel System Pressure-Too High.
The manager at the garage who read the codes said that I was basically running out of fuel (on the latest occasion my fuel gauge read about 30% full, but he said one side of the saddle shaped tank was empty and that given a few minutes fuel could drain (gravitate?) from the other side of the saddle tank allowing us to get going once again. He also referred to Volvo Technical Journal 36647 which relates to deformed fuel tanks. In such cases the base of the fuel tank arches upwards due to a manufacturing error which throws out the fuel gauge readings.
We are informed that

for our model the fuel tank has to be dropped and fully replaced because the fuel pump, filter and gauges are all sealed inside the tank. Cost estimate Australia dollar 5000 to 6000 (US$ 3250 to 3900) including labor.
This is a serious safety issue because a sudden stop on a freeway or even an ordinary road could be fatal.
Any advice on our predicament or information on similar experiences and solutions would be most welcome.

Literally exactly the same here. And currently stuck for I think the 3rd time on the side of the road.
Volvo told me I needed a new fuel pump nothing about the deformed tank. Only about 5mins from a petrol station with 120km left on the clock.
How did you go with yours

Very frustrating. We were faced with the choice of a dangerously unreliable car (100 km/hr to dead stop on a freeway) or paying Australia $6000 to replace the fuel tank and the fuel pump. We caved in and paid.
Volvo designers must hate their customers....to fail to provide for a drainage bung to flush out dirty fuel and no access hatch to easily change out the fuel pump.
