Apple Carplay has arrived
If recent history is any indication, these new software versions seem to have problems when first rolled out and require updating. So I think I'm going to wait a few weeks, and then (based on other owners' reported problems with downloading version 2.2 themselves), I'm going to have my dealership do it.
My experience with 2.2 and Carplay so far are great. In fact, Carplay is more reliable than the internal data/sim, as I often lose signal for long stretches of time with the included data.
The large blank space in the instrument cluster when navigating with Carplay is a little unpleasant, but I can deal with it (I wish it could show media info like with Sensus).
It looks like the system is set up to show Carplay navigation in the instrument cluster and the HUD, as both behave as if there is a map there (In the HUD, the speed limit and speedometer move apart when navigating with Waze or Apple maps and then move back together when navigation is ended, just like with built in Google maps). Hopefully, this can be implemented in a future update (hello, iDrive 8).
If you have an iPhone permanently plugged in (I have an older iPhone and a spare sim/data line), then the phone needs to be unlocked (no password/touch or face ID) to auto resume Carplay when you start up the car again (otherwise you'll need to physically unplug/plug the phone back in). Also the phone needs to be physically "reconnected" when you switch driver profiles. Both annoying, but not deal breakers.
I'm thinking of trying one of the wireless Carplay devices, but my assumption is it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

The lack of navigation information in the instrument panel is annoying but, as others have said, hopefully they'll fix this.
My BIG issue is that incoming call information doesn't go to the instrument panel / HUD either (unlike how CarPlay worked in earlier Volvo models with Sensus) and, even more annoying, calls can't be answered or hung up from the steering wheel controls. I suppose the latter is just an extension of the "car" doesn't really "know" that there is a call in process...
I HATE wired CarPlay and just wish they would implement wireless. In my daughter's car (2018 Chevy) we use the Carlinkit wireless adapter to avoid having to plug the phone in each time. I tried the latest version of that device, as well as the one from her car, with no success in my XC60. VERY annoying and disconcerting. I'm trying another brand to see if I have better results.

So my software update for Apple Car Play has been updated and I've been suing since Monday afternoon in my 2022 xc60 B6. In my Audi I had a wireless adapter. I treid to use it in the Volvo but it would not work. I then purchased the 2022 Wireless Carplay Adapter for iPhone, Cplay2air Wireless Adapter for Factory Wired Apple Carplay Cars, Plug & Play Update Online Dongle and this did not work. I also tried the OTTOCAST Wireless CarPlay Adapter 2022 Speed Fastest Apple Wireless CarPlay Dongle Plug & Play 5Ghz WiFi Auto Connect No Delay Online Update, U2-AIR for OEM Wired CarPlay Cars Model Year After 2016 and NO LUCK.
Any suggestions for a wireless adapter that will work with the 2022 xc60 B6?

Just download the app and it should place itself in the “navigation panel” (top panel), then you can either swipe left/right to change apps in that panel or touch the apps button on bottom left to show all apps.
When it works, it is wondrous. Having full screen, high resolution Waze/Maps/Apple Music is glorious to look at.
However, roughly a week later, I'm about to give up on Carplay (for now). The connection is extremely inconsistent. Sometimes it just won't register that the phone is connected until a full reboot of the Volvo infotainment system. Other times, there are brief disconnections with immediate reconnection. Sometimes, Apple music will play but no sound will come from the speakers, only switching to another source (like the built in Sirius) then switching back to Carplay/Apple music will allow sound to pass. Keeping a phone connected to the system seems to cause frequent reboots and just random problems (camera not activating, etc). Also when navigating with Carplay, the center of the instrument cluster and HUD are rendered useless (considering one paid extra for these features). I find it almost insulting that all these years after being promised, that this still feels like a pre-beta implementation. I have been an Apple/iPhone user exclusively, and now I see that all the Google/Android criticisms are valid.
