Default Buy a 2022 XC 60 phev?

Looking at buying a 2022 XC 60 plugin hybrid to replace my sadly totaled 2011 XC 70. Do y’all recommend/shun this model year. It’s the smaller battery pack (not 2022.5 ER) with 72K miles. Decent price. There were lots of complaints back when this model was new, especially with software driven problems. So now it’s 4 years on… what do folks think now? Are the bugs mostly gone? (I know about the upcoming backup camera recall.)

I have that same year (2022) and model (PHEV, but not the ER). After a little over 4 years and 40K miles, we've experienced no real issues. Yes, we lived through somewhat annoying software nits from time to time, but they occur less frequently at this point after all of the OTA software upgrades. When considering everything else about the vehicle which has been fantastic, I'm happy to live with them. Those who complain loudly about these things have unrealistic expectations in my view. I value the luxurious interior, 400 hp, nice looks, fantastic Google Nav, smooth ride, and incredibly comfortable seats more than a bug-free infotainment system (which you aren't going to get from any manufacturer these days).

I do wish we had the ER version. While the additional range would be nice, it's really the additional electric motor power that would be of greatest use in our case. We moved to a pretty hilly area two years ago, and I'm not able to maintain the speed limit at 65 mph on a couple of extended and relatively steep uphill stretches near my home if just running on electric. I never even noticed the lack of electric-only power before moving to this area (we lived in the city), so it may not be an issue for you if you don't live around big hills. For this reason, I'll be looking to upgrade whenever they increase the electric range yet again. I read rumors that may come in model year 2027, but we'll see. For now, I pop it out of Pure and into Hybrid mode when I hit those hills.
