I have a 2010 Volvo XC60. So was driving and all of a sudden my air just stopped working. looked at different sites said it could be several things was wandering what the it generally is and how much it may cost to fix. thanks

 

when you say "stopped working", does that mean it now only blows warm air, or blows cold for a few minutes then goes warm? Does the fan work? can you turn on/off the heat? Any blinking lights like on the AC or REC switches or other warning lights? First thing is whether you can hear or feel the compressor turn on. If the compressor doesn't turn on, you can check the fuse and the relay to see if they are good. After that, the next question is whether the system still has a charge. There's a low pressure switch which will keep the compressor from coming on as a safety device. You can try jumpering the connector to see if that forces the AC compressor to kick in. Most likely cause is your system has a leak and you don't have enough refridgerant in the system. Don't bother to do a home recharge kit, have a pro do a dye test and fix the leak. If the AC starts cold then goes warm, you may have a compressor clutch gap issue and it needs to be reshimmed.
