Default Dealer Buying Experience

Yesterday I put a $500 (refundable) deposit down on a factory ordered '23 XC60 Plus B5. This is my first experience with a Volvo dealership. Quite a different experience than any other dealer factory order I've made in the last 40 years. It could be somewhat caused by the supply chain issues, and the fact the production facility is in Sweden. First, I want to say that the staff at the dealership was very accommodating to my wishes for a test drive and answering questions about my build. What I found unusual was the fact that they couldn't tell me if they had an allocation for the vehicle I was ordering until they placed the order, which I'm waiting to hear about. Also, they didn't have me sign anything, and said they couldn't discuss price for the vehicle, or my trade-in until they took delivery of the ordered vehicle. They assured me I was under no obligation to complete the purchase if any features or options were missing when the vehicle is delivered, or if we couldn't agree on a price, and my deposit would be completely refunded. Let me say this dealership is only 10 minutes from my home, and any reviews I've read about sales or service there have been highly complimentary. I'm not at all uncomfortable with this transaction, but wonder how it compares with others experiences at their dealers. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I guess no one wants to share their ordering and buying experience.

Default September 2021 order details

I ordered a '22 XC60 Inscription in September 2021. The salesman actually went onto the Volvo dealer site and ordered the vehicle with the exact options I wanted. He gave me a print out of the complete details, including options, the total price and an estimated date range for delivery. I put down a $1,000 refundable deposit, and I got regular emails of the progress of my order. I was told that my trade-in would not be appraised until the day I picked up the new car, as of course the mileage and condition would be different 4 months later. I was also told the Volvo financing rate of 1.99% might not be available when the car was picked up. That turned out to be true; the rate when the car was delivered in January 2022 was 2.49%. The car was delivered with a $200.00 hands-free kick tailgate, which was not on the original order, but I was not charged for it. I was very pleased with the entire transaction and would recommend this dealership.

Thanks for the reply and info. I guess things are a lot different a year later. It's been 5 days and I still don't know if my order has been accepted. I guess I'll contact the dealer tomorrow and see if there's any movement. It's a little frustrating, but I know there's a lot of issues trying to order a new car right now.

Just a quick update, I received an email from my dealer today saying Volvo has accepted my order for build.
