electronic oil level

electronic oil level
I have a 2016 XC60 with a four cylinder engine. No dipstick, oil level is indicated electronically. Manual states put ignition into position II without engine running, then move scroll wheel on left stalk to bring up oil level. When I do this, a "ghost" image of the oil icon comes up, but no reading. Manual further states that car must be driven 20 miles OR be left for at least five minutes on level ground. Car has not been driven for nearly two days and is in my garage on level ground. Any help would be appreciated. Called dealer and no help. I'm taking it up there in a while and will report back, but would like to hear others' experience.
Went to the dealer and discovered my error. Getting into ignition position 2 requires the ignition button be HELD for several seconds before position 2 activates. Afterward, the oil readout worked fine.

Our local dealer told me that most Volvo owners don't even know how to open the hood. This comment was limited to those buying new or newer models and I was told that it comes from Volvo's own research.
So, the conventional thinking today is to use an electronic feedback system to check oil levels and warn the owner of a low level. The same thing goes with tire pressures because relatively few people check.
What we have today is a mindset that unless you get a message, all is well.
