Default Exhaust fumes in passenger cabin

When my xc60 is stationary with the engine running, there are a lot of exhaust fumes in the passenger cabin. I'm guessing that the fumes are getting past the tailgate seal. The seal looks ok and looks like it's fitted correctly.
Is there a way to tighten the electric tailgate when its closed so that it compresses the seal more?
Thanks

Are you sure it's coming in from back there? I've more seen issues with an exhaust leak further up towards the engine and then getting in through the air intake. if you are outside the vehicle, does the exhaust sound any louder than normal?

Thanks for your reply

Absolutely not sure at all - I just assumed that the boot lid would be the likely path. I haven't noticed any change in exhaust tone.
suppose I'd better crawl under it and have a look, or stick a spud up it!

an old, simple test is to put your hand over the exhaust or otherwise plug it up for a short time and listen for leaks. It oughta slow down/sound like it's stalling if it can't breathe.

That's it sorted now.
There was a crack in the EGR pipe and it's a common problem
