Hi All,
I took my XC60 2015 4D (80k miles) to Volvo due to engine sign on the dashboard. They quoted me over £1500 for EGR replacement and another £300+ possibly for the EGR cooler. Now, I have done quite a bit of online research and I came across EGR cleaning products such as Wynn's EGR Cleaner. I found several videos on YouTube for several brands but not a single one for Volvo.
Has anyone used any DIY EGR cleaner? This cleaner gets sprayed through the air intake at short intervals while the car is running at operating level. There are plenty of good reviews.
Many thanks in advance,
Sean

Hi,
Not sure how effective those EGR cleaners can be on Volvo EGR. I would suggest taking it all apart and cleaning it, either with some chemical cleaners, either in ultrasound bath. Something like this:
First, you should find out where the problem is: is it EGR valve or EGR cooler, or both?
Is EGR valve just dirty, or it's broken somehow? If it's just dirty, cleaning would, most probable, help.
Volvo EGR coolers on VEA engines are example of bad design and they get blocked, sooner or later. Cleaning will help for sure - if EGR valve is fine.
