Default Reliability Concerns

Hi there -

I am seriously considering a 2013 or 2014 XC60. Given the used cost, its towing capacity, and what you get for your money, it's a hard vehicle to beat.

My concern isn't about initial reliability, but long-term. Having owned Japanese vehicles my entire life I'm sort of spoiled with getting 200,000-plus miles out of them without having to do much more than the usual wear items plus religious service intervals and oil changes. I take good care of my vehicles.

My spouse had 1980s'era Volvos and they lasted literally forever. Can anybody offer any experience/insight? I've heard horror stories about suspension and drivetrain issues on certain models.

Thanks.

I just bought a 2015 XC-60 and those are my concerns also. I bought a Volvo because I wanted a luxury car because of their reliability, safety and good reputation. I'm learning my way around it now...it's got a lot of electronic bells and whistles to get used to. Buenas suerte, amigos.

I have a 2014 XC60 with about 8K miles and have owned it for about 10 months now. As far as this new of a vehicle is concerned, I've had some issues I don't think I should have had so far. The tailgate latch cable was sticking (most recent issue and I posted the easy fix), I needed a software update the same day I picked it up, and I had a loose glove box that rattled and needed to be tightened. These are all fairly small annoyances and quick/free fixes at the dealership but time is money and I don't appreciate that on a brand new vehicle. I don't think you will need to worry about any major issues that aren't covered under warranty but be ready to be possibly annoyed by some things.

I also owned a 2004 S60 for about 5 years and that thing was rock solid. I never had an issue with it and shouldn't have sold it. I even got rear ended in it by an F-150 and it barely damaged the rear end. The mechanic that repaired it said these older models were built like tanks and made out of boron (or part of a boron compound) I think.
