Default remote start not working

Have had this car for a few years and never knew it had a remote start but it does. Just doesn't work. Fab works fine but the start function...nothing. Any suggestions?

What year?

If your remote look like the one below - the car could be capable of remote start by pushing the lock button then the "light bulb" button. (with the car in range of the remote, not over the internet like the newer cars) However a software download (using a VIDA subscription) is required to activate that function.

It is an xc60 2017, high end package for that year.
Yes this is my remote but it is not starting with those directions. Wouldn't expect to need a subscription for that correct?
Thx

No subscription - that's what the later cars require. Your car requires an "accessory" (a software download, no additional parts are needed) for remote start to work permanently after that. From the accessory catalog -

Thank you but I see no mention of a software download accessory. Is this a download to the car or to my remote? Where and how to I get this? THanks

Certainly you see that it is a OPTIONAL ACCESSORY (in the accessories catalog) sold by Volvo. Unfortunately that function does not comes with the car (without an additional fee!) A Vida subscription holder (most commonly your local Volvo dealer) will have to do this for you. (for a price $$$) And it is a download to your CEM , not your "remote"----

If you google that part number listed in the catalog - to make yours work you need a software download using a Vida subscription to make it work. There's a possibility that using an aftermarket system such as Vdash or OrBit that the activation might be possible - but i have no experience with those aftermarket systems., Sorry i was also shocked with the price of the "remote start" software for my 2015 - until I figured out that i was already installed!
