Default Safety Recall for backup camera

I received a Safety Recall Notice on June 7, 2025 calling for a software upgrade to fix a "Camera Not Available" issue. My software version definitely is older. I have experienced the "Camera Not Available" message; it usually resolved in a few minutes but obviously the software needs to be updated. I'd like not to have to spend the time going down to the dealer and waiting while they install the software. According to the notice the update will be available OTA. Has anyone done this update OTA? What's been your experience?

The OTA update is not available in the US. It is available in Europe, but not sure what kind of luck they've had. I got the same notice, and have an appointment this week to have the update done. I'm in the US, and could not get the OTA update.

I also got the recall notice, and have experienced the backup camera problem on several occasions, but so far mine has resolved itself by the next time I need to go in reverse.

The recall says the fix will be available OTA "at a later date", so as long as the problem doesn't get worse I think I'm going to wait another month or so and see if the OTA update arrives.

Update on this post -- the OTA update 3.7.0 was successfully installed early this morning (August 16). When I started the car the entertainment system booted up from a black screen without a problem. Google maps took a while but it's working with all my saved data. The rear cameras turned right on when I backed up. No problems so far.

Same here. I was offered the update today and successfully installed it. So far, so good.

Default Backup Camera

I had the update (3.7) installed on Friday. No one told me that it would "disable" the 360 camera during backup. Called back to the dealership and they said this was normal. So I have the backup camera at the bottom of the screen, but at the top, I see the car with nothing but black around it. I wish they would have informed me of this before the update.

I also just applied an over the air fix for my 2022 xc60. I received a message indicating I could use my iPhone 16 to download the update. Just like the other respondent it upgraded to 3.7 which according to the safety recall includes the camera fix. After a little over an hour my car was updated. Fantastic since I can now cancel my dealer visit for this Friday.

The 360 camera is still available for me after the 3.7 upgrade; it has never been the "default" view when in reverse, but if I shift to reverse and touch in the center of the screen, it either puts up the 360 icon so I can switch, or it switches for me (I can't remember if the secondary touch is necessary in this scenario or not). You might want to check that, if you haven't already.

Such recalls are critical because a faulty backup camera may display a distorted image, fail to activate, or intermittently shut off, leaving drivers without a clear view of obstacles, pedestrians, or other vehicles while reversing.

Default Recall patch installed "camera unavailable" message has returrned

I had the update installed at the Volvo service center, but I have still occasionally seen the "camera temporarily unavailable" message, even though it flashes and goes away...until last weekend, when I was leaving my parallel parking space within tight confines, and had to resort to using my mirrors to get out of the spot because the message stayed on. Every time Volvo issues an OTA update, I hold my breath, because for every fix, there is usually a regression of another "fix".
