Default Whistling Noise Outer Rear View Mirror

Hi everyone,

I've done some searching and found a little information but not much. I recently purchased an amazing 2013 XC60 T6 R-Design Platinum. I love everything about the car but am plagued by one small issue. There is a loud whistle coming from the outside mirror that is more than audible when the window is down. This is mostly from the driver side and I can tell there is some wiggle room between the mirror cover and mirror itself. Has anyone had any issues with this, or better yet, resolving the issue? I have considered replacing the part, part number: 39821919 - outside mirror cover. It's $160 USD and I don't think the dealership accepts returns on painted parts so It would be a fairly expensive test. I've also read of a TSB, TSB RTJ 23801, that is for 2010-2011 of the same model. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I love riding with the windows down but have pretty sensitive hearing and am a bit OCD. Thanks!

Use masking tape to cover the seams on the mirror, mirror area one at a time and drive to see if the noise changes or goes away. If doing it around the mirror does nothing then start going further out, door, fender and so on.

I taped the small gap at the top of the mirrors and that eliminated the whistling noise. Upon further inspection, after removing both mirror covers, I noticed one of the clips on the inside was broken. Because of this, the mirror cover was not able to be pulled flush with the housing and creates a small gap on the top side of the mirror that causes the whistling noise. I ended up ordering the part pre-painted for my vehicle. I very much hope this solves the issue. I'll touch back with my results.
