XC60 Front Fender rusting?
Both the front fender on my 2010 XC60 are rusting pretty much in the same exact spot!
I've always loved the fact that Volvo's rarely rust..
Has anyone noticed this on their? I almost think that Volvo should have done a recall on this issue just like the leaking windows on so many Volvos!
Thanks
Ken

My 2010 Volvo XC60 rusted at the same location as described. I figured out that these corrosion points are where the plastic wheel well liner is cliped to the steel fender body. The clip allows debree to build up behind it. Where salt is used for winter road de-icing, this would be the spot most prone to corrosion attack. I would say this is a design flaw by the manufacturer. My corrosion started after 10 years which is beyond the 10 year corrosion warranty. The corrosion started around the edge of the fender panel. I just sanded off what ever rust I can see (mostly surface rust) and just hand painted a curved strip on the outside edge of the fender panel. My car is white so the strip does not stand out too much. It almost look intentional. Anyway for a 13 year old car, I am not too fussy about the look of the car anymore. I also seal the inner edge of the fender panel (where rust started) with white silicone (again not very visible costmetically). I may need to do touchup in the future but I don't think it will get really bad. If it gets to the point of bothering me, I will buy the aftermarket fender panels and have them painted by the auto shop and then replace the rusted fenders. This will probably cost $1000 for both panels.

Rusting Volvo XC60 Fender Panel
Keep in mind the fender design continued to the 2017 model year so the same structure design issue is still there. I would recommand that in winter when road salt is used, pay attention to routinely pressure wash the area we are talking about. Maybe oil spray undercoatong would also help. Good luck with your new vehicle.
