Default XC60 - Water sloshing sounds

Hi everyone,

This is my first post and I’m really hoping someone can give me some advice as I am seriously getting frustrated.

We recently purchased a 2009 XC60 which we love other than this one issue. Since the weather has become a lot wetter we have noticed a water sloshing sound coming from the passenger side mid door beam, it sounds like the noise is coming out of the air vent.

We have not suffered with any issues of wet interior but do have a lot of condensation issues.

I have seen other posts about water ingress through sun roofs but we do not have one, but I cannot find anyone else describing the same issue.

I have had a bit of a poke about but am a complete novice when it comes to cars and did not want to break something.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

On most modern Volvos (2001+) The carpet can be up to 4 inches thick - there is a foam pad bonded to the back of the carpet to make the floor flat. Pull the carpet up - easiest is at the door threshold - the plastic threshold pulls up and you can fit your hand underneath to feel for water - or could be stuck in the door - there are small drains in the bottom of the doors that can get clogged.

There are two possible water leak issues. Both are common issues. The first one is the windshield and it may have to be replaced. The seals and glue were defective from the factory. The second is the sunroof drain and it goes through the passenger A pillar and can get clogged. A distant third is the door seal.

Try clearing the sunroof drain first as that is the cheapest fix.

Default Odd 'sloshing' noise in dash when accelerating

2001 S80 Turbo - I have a 'sloshing noise' emanating from the driver's side dash (or therabouts) when I accelerate. It also sounds like someone pouring little plastic beads out of a cup or something. There is no sign of water/fluids anywhere but the coolant reservoir constantly needs topping up, yet there are no puddles around the vehicle, even when idling for a little while after running. When half-empty, the reservoir is pressurized, even after sitting overnight. What's going on?

Thanks

kwjanes, this is a wild guess, but it sounds as if there is air in the heater circuit (the coolant lines used to heat the cabin) and a small leak that only happens when under the extra pressure during driving.

But as I said, this is a wild guess from my experience with other cars.

Thanks. I wonder where I can obtain a schematic of the inner workings.
