Check engine light went on. AC stopped working.

Checked Fuses, Fuse # 5 under the hood keeps blowing.
It's a 10 Amp fuse labeled: AC - Relay Emiss. Syst.

I've unplugged and checked the Air pump with 12Volts, it works
fine.

I also unplugged the only wire that was accessible to the AC compressor
clutch.

Any other suggestions how I can diagnose why this fuse is blowing?

Maybe just a Relay but I don't know how to determine which one.

Get the codes pulled to know where to look.

 

12 codes come up.

10 emissions related, Air Pump, O2 sensor, cat converter ect.
2 were AC related.

I checked the Relays tonight. AC relay is fine, Air pump relay is
fried.. However when I pulled it out the car still blows that fuse.
So I'm really stumped.

 

Maybe try unplugging the air pump as well.

 

thanks, already tried that too, Infact I've pulled both relays as well as the
air pump connector and the AC clutch connector. It still blows that fuse
immediately.

 

Do you have a funky looking sensor on the front of the subframe on the passenger side?
Also try to unplug the A/C high pressure switch.

Where is the AC high pressure switch? I'll try looking for that too.

The A/C high pressure switch is behind the passenger side headlight.

 

Thanks, unfortunately the whole car wouldn't start last night!

Seems like a fuel issue to me, it started then died. I just don't
have the time to deal with that and it's getting towed AAA anyway,
so it's going to the shop!

I'll post what happens next

 

20days and $1100 later I've got my volvo back. Fuel pump was repalced, $700 in labor.

The fuse was blowing because of a short on the airbox heater, sensor, resistor? I don't
know exactly what it was.

The check engine light is STILL on.. the only code left is the evaporative pressure
sensor.

Did they replace the induction hose to the turbo?

 

The receipt shows PTC resistor on the intake air tube.

I think it was that hose they replaced. The hose itself was fine it was the sensor,
or resistor that was shorted and blowing the fuse which caused lots of other problems.

I wouldn't mind the price too much if the dam Check engine light was actually out now...
but it isn't. A Evaporative pressure code now.

And if that wasn't enough I just realized that there is a problem with the AWD...
realized it when I got stuck in today's snowstorm.

I'll be selling this car soon, can't afford to fix the AWD and that's why I got it. Too
bad, I really like the car.

I have never seen one of those hoses that bad.

The entire hose needs to be replaced because the valve cannot be bought seperate.

 

Thanks, that at least explains why I couldn't find the part.
However I also thought it was a 'resistor' or heater because this mechanic
clearly doesn't know volvos. I won't be going back there.

 

I have never really found anything in writing for exactly what that sensor is for.
I have heard a ton of things it is supposed to be. But I am still really not sure exactly what it is either.
