Audio Control Failure
I have a 2015 XC70, which I adore. Unfortunately, after getting it back from its most recent servicing, all of the audio controls on the console have stopped working along with the nav, camera and other buttons in the same part of the console. The display says radio is working but it is not possible set the volume above zero even using the steeringwheel controls. These had been working when I took it in.
I took it back into the dealer and they diagnosed it as a failed audio amplifier (AUD), which is located under the right passenger seat. The dealer claims that there is no way they could have damaged it during the servicing (60K servicing, some work on the rear seat belts, plus vacuming and cleaning) and wants to charge me $1200 parts and labor to fixt it.
My trust in the dealer is very low at this point. I gave them a working car and got back a broken one. I am skeptical that the audio unit would spontaineously fail while the car was in for servicing but I can't rule out that possiblity. It seems more likely to me that someone banged the unit during the cleaning, yanked a cable by accident or was a bit overly enthusastic with the cleaning fluid.
Does this sound like the right diagnosis? How likely do you think that this is a result of something the dealer did during the servicing or just a random failure? Is there anything else I should try before shelling out $1200?

see if the connectors are secure and if the wiring is not damaged. I think it would be hard for a tech to break the amp unit itself, but it seems plasible that the wiring/connectors could have been kicked and loosened or damaged.
