Bevel (angle) gear oil change
All,
I want to change the oil in the bevel gear housnig in the wife's 01 XC 70 as a preventative measure (the car has 62K on it). Is there a special "one of a kind" fluid I need to use like we have to in our transmissions, or will good old synthetic 75W90 gear oil work? Thanks in advance for any advice, Glenn |
RE: Bevel (angle) gear oil change
According to VADIS:
Only use transmission fluid. P/N: 1161513-5 Correct volume: 750 ml. Tighten the level plug. Tighten to 35 Nm |
Vadis ??

VADIS is the Windows precursor to VIDA. Since the angle gear (bevel gear) only takes less than a quart, why not simply buy the OEM part #? IPD, FCP and dealer stores all carry PN# 1161513-5 for about $25. From what I've read its just a 75-90wt GL5 oil so you could research for something from Redline, Amsoil etc. There's a different part number listed for the rear differential so not sure what is needed there. (rear diff takes like 1.3L...)

Because Valvoline full synthetic is much cheaper. Are you an OEM Volvo parts rep or something?

as noted you can go shop for a GL5 75-90 and save $5. Walmart sells Redline, Valvoline, Mobil1 (all synthetic) for $22 a quart.
