Bevel (angle) gear oil change
All,
I want to change the oil in the bevel gear housnig in the wife's 01 XC 70 as a preventative measure (the car has 62K on it). Is there a special "one of a kind" fluid I need to use like we have to in our transmissions, or will good old synthetic 75W90 gear oil work?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Glenn

what is VADIS??? Why wouldn’t a synthetic 70/90 work well in a mechanical differential with no clutches?
VADIS is the Windows precursor to VIDA. Since the angle gear (bevel gear) only takes less than a quart, why not simply buy the OEM part #? IPD, FCP and dealer stores all carry PN# 1161513-5 for about $25. From what I've read its just a 75-90wt GL5 oil so you could research for something from Redline, Amsoil etc. There's a different part number listed for the rear differential so not sure what is needed there. (rear diff takes like 1.3L...)
