buying a 2004 XC70, help
I am thinking about buying a 2004 Volvo XC70 with 74564 miles on it, red metalic with a chocolate brown leather, very nice car, dealership wants $15995 but I am getting them down and they will throw in the warrenty to 100K. Since I was 16 I have been driving a BMW and been very happy with them. My wife is from a Volvo family although she has never owned one. She is currently driving a 93 Toyota LandCruiser and it is going down hill. I found this XC and really fell in love with the idea of an off-road wagon. I started reading up on them and am somewhat confused, I hear about transmission problems and electrical and other things but people are only talking about 2002 and earlier cars does this mean 04 is safe and a good buy, please anyone with the knowledge let me know I have this car on hold and really like it, if I hear good things I am a new Volvo owner. Thank You all in advance.
I am also looking at a couple of used XC70s, anything decent from 2001 until today (but that are affordable - we only put about 5k mileage on our cars a year because we live downtown). Like any used car, you get your share of lemons.
Apparently, if the car is made after 2003, the AWD system was updated and they are more robust (check out Consumer Reports - the rating changes dramatically at that point).
Unfortunately, the majority of points you'll see on-line will be complaints (of course) but that goes with pretty much any high-end European used car such as Audi and BMW.
