my a/c has turned itself on WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. this has happened 3-4 times now. i have come down to my car and its just blowing. even if i turn the a/c off before i exit the car it has done it. then i have to turn it on and back off to get it to stop. any ideas guys? 2002 cross country with 150k on the engine.

you mean the blower is turning, properly the heat element is wrong or something in the ccu is wrong.

 

this has been discussed bfr and I even think its mentioned in the owners manual!
Mine does it and its meant to dry out the evap coil!

 

that makes a lot of sense! it usually does it when its really hot a humid. thx.

 

its a little unsettling and I worry if the battery ever started to get week if would drain beyond the ability to start it, but i guess we would would have to hope its smarter than that LOL!

 

It was designed that way, it is meant to turn on itself after some driving to relieve the A/C from stinking. it runs for a few minutes then turns off itself again. I was worried too once then found out.
