dying at idle
2001 with 100,000 miles. runs fine on hwy. when i come to a stop the rpm's flucuate fromm 1k too 500 rpm and sometimes dies. engine seems to jump. i disconnect the connector to the mass flow valve and the dying seems to get better but it is not solved completely. i need to take it to the neareswt dealership (100 miles away) can i drive it with the connector disconnected or will that cause harm. it was suggested by an ex-volvo tech. that the throttle body may need replacing. ( i drove 20 miles home disconnected and my gas mileage went from 23.6 to 33.2) if i can get a reply tonight before i make the journey to the dealership tomorrow it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: dying at idle
If it were me I would try cleaning the throttle body first.
But it isn't an easy task on yours. It is up under the intake manifold. |
RE: dying at idle
i have the same problem.. were you able to fix it....

RE: dying at idle
Try cleaning the throttle body, then try cleaning the MAF and see if that helps.
