I'd check battery first, then fuel delivery.

I'd check all of the ground straps. Battery and fuel system wouldn't affect the instrument panel.

The instrument goes out because the car dies.

I was taking the order of events as:
1. gauges go dead
2. engine dies
3. engine restarts right away

Sounds like a loose ground strap to me. I could always be wrong, however

Default 2005 xc70 shutdown problem

Grounds have been checked, but its very weird, everything seems to die at once, you are driving down the road and you loose power, look down at the guages and everything electical is shut down with the odometer at zero, you coast to the side of the road, turn the car off and it always starts right away with no hesitation....anyone out there heard of this

Similar issue but my car will not die. If I shut off car and restart will sometime solve issues. Would like to figure this one out.
