My kids lost the key to the ol' XC70 battle axe. I had a new one reprogrammed. It worked and guess what! They lost that one too. I had the same locksmith come out and he said there was no data / info on the transponder or computer in the car for a new key to read so he could not help me. He said he had never seen this before. I towed it to a Volvo dealership and after they claimed no data as well, they charged me $500 to reinstall software. It didn't work and I towed it away from Volvo and now it sits. What now? Any input? What is this data that is missing? Where did it go? Is this a total loss?

 

Sorry that your dealer didn't offer any more insights into the problem. Either they messed up doing the software load or there's an issue with connectivity to or a problem within one of the computer modules. The dealer should have been able to check that for you. Time to check back in with the service manager at the dealer or you may want to see if Xemodex offers any insights on replacing the ECM or knows which modules are in play for the immobilizer and which stores the key code etc.
