After 13 months of research and seller inquiry's on about 200 different 2001 - 2004 XC70's...will be purchasing (next week)a 2001 XC70, one owner, 67k mile, black/black Carfaxed from a reputable NYC Audi dealer - it's a recent trade-in, $11,250. Runs-out fairly well, 50% tread left on the Pirelli Scorpions, clear coat buffed out, interior detailed handsomely, 3rd row seating- never smoked-in.

Small thump when engaging 'drive' gear but NYC state mandates a 30 day warranty so when I get it home and checked by Cottman Transmission, if it requires a fresh Triptronic unit it shouldn't be a big issue.

Know about the crucial 100k timing belt change. No biggie there, will use a Volvo dealer.

Several Q's:

A) Need an inexpensive remote entry and/or remote starter unit. And programming instructions. Original key = n/a. Makes, models would be appreciated.

If I just have a remote starter unit installed will that automatically feature a remote entry? No garage so am not concerned about the garage door opener.

Some of the eBay Motors sellers of similar remote PDL stuff look to be reputable by their volume of transactions, length of time on eBay, easy return policy'sand feedback rating & comments. Thoughts?

A link for an on-line service manual would be great too!
Need to have the recommended service mileage notes made available. Only the original Volvo service stamped book and not the wagon's factory manual is available with the sale.

A service light is 'on' now - the seller said that indicates that the 68,500 recommended service will be due soon and that every upcoming service will be announced, up-front with a similar dash board display. Does this sound accurate?

B) Dealer wants $1800. + to add load leveling rear suspension (labor extra).Will the rear ride heightthen be adjusted by a link to the car's computeras the early 90's Buick Roadmaster's load leveling rear suspension? Or is it purely an ordinary, mechanical HD shock-spring-sway bar combo?

The parts / service dept's in several regional Volvo dealers all acknowledged no experience with load leveling ('P 70' Accessory Package) and guesstimated that maybe 10% of all XC70's had them retrofit via a Volvo dealer since the US market had never been shipped any load leveling 2001 XC70's from Sweden.

C)The PDL (power door lock)door panel button only seems to work from inside, on the driver's side door where a tiny icon can be lit ('on') or clicked to the 'off' position. Would a full tilt diagnostic be required or is there a simple and relatively unknown switch that needs to be activated to lock/unlock the other 5 doors? The child safety locks on the rear doors had been in the all access, unrestricted mode position and we were able to enter and exit from those doors once they were manually unlocked. But not before.

D) Any known & / or recommended MP3 transmitters that I can use with the 200 watt factory-multi-disk CD player to be able tooperate my generic MP3 player without replacing the entire radio unit? Thanks! Need all the help I can get on this.

E) What's the deal on the 300 HP chipset's? Does it just pop-in like a PC installation? Do other parts need to be changed? Any dyno-tested datum links would be welcome.
