Red face Something is amiss in my electrical system.

Hello to all. I have an electrical issue with my 2007 XC70. The vehicle has about 285,000 miles on the (I think) original engine and transmission. And both are still functioning fairly well. A message appeared on the Instrument display stating a Power System Failure Urgent, coupled with a triangular-shaped, Red-colored emblem with an exclamation mark within it. The Red-colored Battery symbol is also displayed. A battery shop employee tested the at least 4 year old battery and stated it appeared good, based on the instrument's reading that he used. After using the same device to check the Alternator, he stated it was dysfunctional. A nearby shop switched out the Alternator with a Remanufactured One. Charging System was not generating the proper amount of Volts/Amps, so the shop manager suggested I drive my vehicle with the hope that system would build up proper energy output, and the message would possibly clear from the display. Negative on both. I only got a clicking noise while attempting to start my car after two days of driving post-repair. Battery had gone dead. By happen-stance stopped in on an Alternator Specialist. Gentleman informed me that my alternator was behaving as if the ignition was in an engaged position even when no key was in the ignition, and consequently draining the battery along with possibly doing harm to internal components of the Alternator. I am curios if there is some type of fuse or Fusible-Link set-up on this model Volvo. Because in retrospect I do distinctly recall smelling a burning odor in my engine Bay shortly prior to these issues. Any and all help/suggestions are much-appreciated.
