Default electrical power system fault HELP

Hello, I am new to the volvo world and need some help.
I just purchased a 02 S60 automatic, with 112k on the clock, ran great till today.
While driving home, after about 10 minutes of driving, the car shut off and a message popped up saying "EL SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED". Car would not restart.Cranks, but not start. Waited about 4-5 minutes and car restarted and seemed normal and then shutdown after 3-4 minutes of running with the same message showing. Car would not restart, cranks, but not start.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
Tony

The Alternator voltage regulator might be bad.

I have the same problem w/ my 2002 S60 turbo. Way less mileage. Tried a new battery, didn't fix the error message.

Do you have any info on replacing the regulator? Im mechanically inclined, but don't know where to begin. Or cost on the part, etc.
